Death and Rebirth of a Server
Now, I've always been clear with what I'm doing with my playerbase therefore I won't be leaving them in the dark with what we're doing. So yes. 'Death'. From now on my staff and I will not be touching Unto Aether and neither will we accept apps for the server. Instead, we will be focusing on creating a new RP server without the flaws this one had. Don't lie to yourself. There were major flaws that we were not able to address for the the past two months:
1. Nothing much for players to do whilst not RPing.
2. No major player involvement with the story.
3. A player economy simply didn’t exist.
There were other problems, yet, I feel like those are the major three things wrong with this server. These problems are deeply rooted with the server and it's theme. It's also the simple fact that there isn't enough content. Sure, you got Darude full of builds- but what else? Earth-2 was just one city. Earth-3 was a drastically incomplete world that we canned after three weeks.
Another problem- dare I say personal problem cropped up nearly two weeks ago when I started designing a moon. Ampulgator and I built on it for some time until I lost interest. This is a problem. The server is designed so that the staff is absolutely needed for things to ultimately happen. It's a problem because I'm the owner. It's shown that if I'm not online, my lazy staff takes that as 'I don't need to get on!'. And where has that lead us? All these problems have lead to a severely low player cap. There's nearly 60 people whitelisted yet only a few have been logging in for the past three weeks.
So that's why I'm stopping development on Unto Aether. I'm not abandoning the idea completely, though. In the future I would love to come back to the idea with a larger staff and a better resolve. But currently I have neither of those. Nor does it mean I'm giving up on an RP server. Hence the 'Rebirth' part.
What does this mean for those who've stuck loyally to my server? It means the work they've been building up until now will not be thrown to waste. I'll explain near the end.
(The name Project RP is just a running name at the moment.) This server will have a strong medieval theme with tastes of sci-fi and fantasy elements. Magic will be in this server albeit controlled heavily. The server will exist on one world. A big ass world. Nearly 10,000 by 7000. https://i.imgur.com/66YPubs.png (That circle near the middle is the far render distance)Three continents will exist on this new world. Three racial kingdoms have been discussed so far. Human, Elf, and uh.. maybe the bird folk. That's the idea so far.
So, addressing Unto Aether's first flaw: Nothing much for players to do whilst not RPing. Within this server, there will be multiple things to do while not RPing. From doing trade runs to completing daily raids, we will shove multiple things to accomplish down this server's throat. A more in-depth crafting system will be introduced as well with an even more complex professions system.
Onto the second one: No major player involvement with the story. In Project RP, players will be the ones running the show. Obviously, three staff members will act as kings or presidents at the start, but the underlings, the lords and knights, they will be the ones actively doing things. This ranges from conquering another kingdom's lands to creating trade-agreements with friendlier kingdoms. Of course events will exist. But they will not exist solely to drive the story forward.
Onto the third flaw: A player economy simply didn’t exist. This server will be designed on top of a fluctuating economy. Money will have real power in this server. Just like in real life! :-D. More options to gain wealth will exist as well.
Now coming back to the point of player's work on Unto Aether. Those who've been already been whitelisted will only need to create a character using new app as a base. Speaking of which, the app for Project Rp with be a little more extreme than the one for Unto Aether. Anyhow, those who've been loyal to Unto Aether will automatically have the chance to become lords or town owners. I see that as fair. As for you mister Slyguy( if you even read this that is) you can have a castle since I promised you I would transfer your compound onto the new world.. even though it's a different server.
How the server's public launch will work:
It will be split into three parts. Like some.. indie game or whatever.
ALPHA: Key components will be tested during this phase.
BETA: Flaws and other nuisances will be hammered out in this phase.
LAUNCH: It's launch. Wooh.
Alpha and Beta phases will last five days each. This number might change in the future. You can expect ALPHA to be released in a month or two. If you want to see that date come closer, I'll be placing staff apps for the new server somewhere.. around this forum. The build process will begin as soon as the lore and the worldpainted map are both completed. Due to the holidays, this could mean in around two weeks at most. The start of the year maybe. When the build phase starts we'll be more lenient on staff apps as we'll be needing builders.
I think that about wraps up what I wanted to say. Cheers.

Project RP
An idea forged from fire and brimstone, past failures and accomplishments.
